The first specimen was lot 30386 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peter I silver Altyn (3 Kopecks) 1712 AU55 NGC, Red mint, eagle's tail wide. Mottled gray patina with a notable reverse flan flaw. A very rare variety." The second specimen was lot 50 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$569 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Peter I. 1682-1725, Altyn 1712, Red mint. 25 roubles according to Petrov. About very fine." This denomination was struck irregularly 1704-18 and then no more were made until 1840. This type of 1711-12 is rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but quite scarce.
Specification: 0.84 g, 0.729 fine silver, the second specimen is 0.89 g.
