This specimen was lot 22516 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peter I (the Great) Polu[p]oltinnik (1/4 Rouble) 1704 Moscow, Laureate bust of Peter I right / Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle, Fine 15 NGC. Nicely detailed, with no significant flaws. A very scarce issue, and conservatively graded by NGC." Altho Russia was nominally on a decimal system, this coin being a quarter of a ruble or twenty-five kopeks, we may be sure that the peasants who used this coin called it a polupoltinnik.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7 g, .824 fine silver, .185 troy oz ASW.
