This specimen was lot 697 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $5,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Regensburg. Taler, 1766. NGC MS-64 PL. Struck in the name of Joseph II. Iridescent toning with blue hues. Prooflike with sharp features. Museum quality with great eye appeal. From the Rockaway Collection." It is one of a series of city view thalers issued 1766-80; the obverse features the bust of Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor and busybody son of Maria Theresia of Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
