Künker sale 405, part of lot 3267

This specimen was lot 3267 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €9,500 (about US$12,465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FRANZ I., 1745-1765. Kurant- und Scheidemünzen aus der Zeit des Kaisers Franz I. nach der österreichisch-bayerischen Münzkonvention vom 21. September 1753. Konv.-Taler 1762 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1759 geändert), mit Titel von Franz I. Münz­meister Johann Christoph Busch. Stempelschneider Georg Friedrich Loos. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 64 (6643582-005). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, fast Stempelglanz. (city of Regensburg, convention thaler of 1762, struck in the name of Francis I, 1762/59 overdate. Graded NGC MS-64, scarce in this quality, cabinet example, fine patina, minor edge flaws, about uncirculated.)"

After being very active in striking coins during and after the War of the Austrian Succession, the Regensburg mint settled down to a period of somnolence in the 1750's and 1760's. This type was also struck in 1754 and 1756.
