Sincona sale 18, lot 1838

This specimen was lot 1838 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 300 (about US$395 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"5 Mark 1899. Berlin Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, five mark of 1899, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1891-1908. It superseded a similar type with a different reverse (Dav-788).

Recorded mintage: 524,960.

Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, .803 troy oz ASW, lettered edge, this specimen 27.77 g.
