Künker sale 353, lot 3734

This specimen was lot 3734 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €550 (about US$766 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 6 Kreuzer 1745, W-AHE, Breslau. Prägung für die Provinz Schlesien. Mit FRIDERICUS D G REX BORUSSORUM in der Vorderseitenumschrift und "W" (= Wratislawia) unter dem Schild der Rückseite. Münzmeister Adam Heinrich von Ehrenberg. R Feine Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, fast Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 132, Frankfurt/Main 1989, Nr. 758. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, six kreuzer of 1745, Breslau mint, struck for the province of Silesia, with the initial "W" under the shield on the reverse. Rare, fine patina, light planchet flaws, about uncirculated.)"

After Frederick the Great seized Silesia in 1742, he issued kreuzer denominated coinage for the province which did not directly convert into the thaler-based coinage used in the rest of the realm. One, three, six, 15 and 18 kreuzer were issued along with one and two groschel pieces. This type is listed for 1745-47. The last six kreuzer was struck in 1757.
