Künker sale 406, lot 3963

This specimen was lot 3963 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Dukat 1745, EGN, Berlin. GOLD. RR Min. gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, ducat of 1745, Berlin mint. Very rare, slightly wavy, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1745-49 with all dates being rare. Issues of ducats in Prussia, never prolific, dwindled after the introduction of the frederick d'or in the 1740's.
