Prussia 1733-EGN ducat Fr-2338
This specimen was lot 3250 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,732 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. Dukat 1733, EGN, Berlin. Der Kopf teilt die Umschrift zwischen D · - G ·. Münzmeister Ernst Georg Neubauer. GOLD. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 357, Frankfurt/Main 1998, Nr. 2554. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, ducat of 1733, Berlin mint, the head divides the obverse legend between D and G. Extremely fine.)"
This type is listed for 1733-40 with all dates being rare. Issues of ducats in Prussia, never prolific, dwindled after the introduction of the frederick d'or in the 1740's.
