Prussia 1737-EGN ducat Fr-2338
This specimen was lot 3251 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,500 (about US$3,479 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. Dukat 1737, EGN, Berlin. Der Kopf teilt die Umschrift zwischen WILH · - D · G · sowie am Ende mit BOR · E · B ·. Münzmeister Ernst Georg Neubauer. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. Erworben am 30.6.2003 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, ducat of 1737, Berlin mint. The bust on the obverse interrupts the legend. About extremely fine.)"
This type is listed for 1733-40 with all dates being rare. Issues of ducats in Prussia, never prolific, dwindled after the introduction of the frederick d'or in the 1740's.
