This specimen was lot 43003 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $317.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 200 Reis (12 Vintens), 1689. Lisbon Mint. Pedro II. PCGS AU-58." This half cruzado was struck 1688-93, 1696-97, 1701-1706 at Lisbon and Porto. Surprising, despite the many years of issue, the Lisbon product is priced higher than the Porto issue. It is one of the earliest machine-struck coins of Portugal, which commenced using the screw press about 1677.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 8.65 g, 0.917 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-148; Gomes-61.04 (Plate coin).
