The first specimen was lot 43278 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 60 Reis, ND (1828-34). Lisbon Mint. Miguel. PCGS MS-63." This type was struck 1828-34 without a date or denomination. It continued a tradition of such low denomination silver coins from the days of Peter III. King Michael was a usurper who was finally driven out in 1834 in favor of his niece, queen Maria II.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: 1.83 g, 0.917 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-382.
