This specimen was lot 21083 in Heritage sale 61526 (Dallas, TX, July 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portugal: João IV Counterstamped 100 Reis ND (1642) VF Details (Cleaned) NGC, "100" counterstamp (AU Strong) on Portugal João III 80 Reis from the Lisbon mint." The SCWC divides this issue into KM 426.1, 426.2, 426.3, 426.4, depending on the host coin. None are common. João IV was the first Portuguese king after the Spanish were expelled in 1640. Hammered coins were produced at Porto, Lisbon and Évora, with Lisbon being the most available.
