Poland 1982-CHI 10000 zlotych
This specimen was lot 31510 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 'Pope John Paul II Visit' Proof 10000 Zlotych 1982-CHI PR62 Ultra Cameo NGC. Displaying stark cameo qualities and numerous small grade-defining ticks over the surfaces." Pope John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in several centuries, was a Polish celebrity of the first order and even the Communist regime could not pass up the opportunity to issue NCLT's in his honor. The 1982 series include 100, 200, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000 zlotych denominations in various metals. This type was reissued in 1986.
Recorded mintage: 200 plus 700 proofs.
