Poland 1980-MW 2000 zlotych KM-Y116
This specimen was lot 49190 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 2000 Zlotych, 1980-MW. Warsaw Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." The Warsaw mint also issued Y111 and Y119 in this denomination in 1980, the year Solidarity challenged the communists' grip on Poland. This design was also used on a copper-nickel 50 złotych (Y114) and silver 200 złotych (Y115). Wikipedia comments, "Bolesław I the Brave (c. 967-1025), less often known as Bolesław the Great, was Duke of Poland from 992 to 1025 and the first King of Poland in 1025."
