Poland 1838-NG 10 zlotych
This specimen was lot 329 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 50,000 CHF (about US$67,332 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 1 1/2 Roubles - 10 Zlotych 1838, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NG. Excessively rare, probably only 13 pieces struck. 2.5 roubles according to Petrov. 75 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC MS64. Cabinet piece with beautiful toning. From the Soedermann Collection, auction SINCONA 7, Zürich, October 2012, lot 1209 (price realized: CHF 80,000). From the auction Hess/Leu 27, Lucerne, October 1964, lot 1515. Note from the collector Soederman: 'Must be Brand specimen. 13 (pcs) struck.'"
This type was struck 1833-41 at Warsaw and St. Petersburg. Ten złotych equaled 1½ rubles. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850 altho the Warsaw mint continued to operate.
