This specimen was lot 58153 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 10 Zlotych (1-1/2 Ruble), 1837-MW. Warsaw Mint. Nicholas I. NGC AU-50." Despite Russian promises of autonomy, the czar found the Poles to be the most obstreperous of all his subjects. Major rebellions occurred in 1831 and 1863. This issue was struck 1833-41 while Poland was under Russian rule (1815-1918). Ten złotych equaled one and a half rubles. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1841.
