Sincona sale 19, lot 702

This specimen was lot 702 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 15,000 (about US$18,798 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1 ½ Roubles – 10 Zlotych 1837, St. Petersburg Mint, HГ. Rare. 4 roubles according to Iljin. 2.5 roubles acc. to Petrov. 2.5 roubles according to Trapeznikov. Choice proof with most attractive patina. The low mintage – 34 004 pieces." This issue was struck 1833-41 while Poland was under Russian rule (1815-1918). Ten złotych equaled one and a half rubles. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1841.
