Pfalz 1765-AS thaler Dav-2540
This specimen was lot 3559 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €180 (about US$236 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Karl Theodor, 1777-1799. Konv.-Taler 1765, Mannheim. Prägung als pfälzischer Kurfürst. Sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Charles Theodore, 1777-99, convention thaler of 1765, Mannheim mint, with his title as elector of the Palatinate. Very fine.)"
Altho the auctioneers included this issue with Bavaria, it was actually minted in 1765 and 1771 in the Palatinate. Charles Theodore would not become elector of Bavaria until 1777, on the death of his cousin Maximilian III Joseph.
