Künker sale 406, lot 4040

This specimen was lot 4040 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PFALZ, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Karl Theodor, 1743-1799. Dukat 1763, Mannheim. Rheingold. GOLD. Leichte Druckstellen, winz. Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Bankhaus Aufhäuser 13, München 1997, Nr. 1605. (electorate of the Palatinate, Charles Theodore, 1743-99, ducat of 1763, Mannheim mint, gold from the Rhine. Lightly punched, some hairlines, about extremely fine.)"

Another scarce type from 1762-64, made from gold panned from the Rhine. Carl Theodor went on to become elector of Bavaria.
