Peru 1826-Cuz G 8 reales
This specimen was lot 1619 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $1,770. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuzco, Peru, 8 reales, 1826G, encapsulated NGC MS 62, finest known specimen graded by NGC. Slightly crude strike, with die-clashing and wear rims (also some surface porosity), but no wear and much luster, faint hairlines to left of shield, still 3 grades higher than second-best in the NGC census." This type was struck at Lima 1825-28 and at Cuzco 1826-29 and is rather common; the complete span of Peru standing liberty eight reales runs 1825-55. Assayer G is recorded for the Cuzco mint 1826-31.
Recorded mintage: unknown but reasonably common.
