Peru 1826-Cuz GM 1/2 escudo
This specimen was lot 25618 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1/2 Escudo 1826 CUZ-GM, Cuzco mint, MS64 NGC. Choice Uncirculated. Other than a non-offensive scratch to the right of the tree and a tiny rim nick at 7 o'clock on the obverse, this example is basically as struck. The obverse (mintmark and date) side is especially aesthetically appealing, with lustrous surfaces and much bloom. A very scarce condition for this one-year type and tied for finest graded at NGC." This type was struck at Cuzco in 1826 and at Lima 1826-56. It is much scarcer than the prices in the SCWC would indicate.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.
Specification: 1.69 g, .875 gold, .047 troy oz AGW.
