Peru 1826-Cuz GM escudo
This specimen was lot 1236 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Cuzco, gold 1 escudo, 1826 GM, NGC AU details / obv scratched, ex-Almenara. Rich gold color and choice full rims but with interior natural flan flaws on both sides, heavy scratch to left of Liberty, desirable first date of Republic gold, one of only two in the NGC census, the other being AU 58. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label)." This type is recorded from Cuzco for 1826 and 1830 and from Lima 1826-29 and 1833. The SCWC does not award this date a premium.
