Peru 1827-Cuz G 8 reales
This specimen was lot 72333 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1827-CUZCO G. Cuzco Mint. NGC AU-50. Still quite bright and nicely detailed, this example does display a touch of handling and friction that accounts for the grade, but is an overall presentable specimen for the specialist." This subtype was struck 1826-29 and is scarcer than the Lima issue from the same years. Assayer GM is recorded for the Cuzco mint 1826-27 as well as assayer G, who may be the same person. The republic of Peru struck eight reales until 1857.
