This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, of a type struck 1814-21. This specimen was lot 3523 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "1819 JP 4 escudos. Lima mint. EF-40 (NGC). Types as above. Deep yellow gold with attractive toning highlights. Planchet flaws on lower portion of bust, fine planchet split at 12:00. A circulated but very attractive specimen of this challenging type. From Stack's sale of the Col. James W. Flanagan Collection, March 1944, Lot 555."
