This specimen was lot 25259 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $2,185. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1772-JM, XF45 NGC, nicely toned with well-struck features, an attractive and original example of this scarce early date." This coin was minted 1792-1808 and is the most common Peruvian colonial eight escudos.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
