The first specimen was lot 1589 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $171.10. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, 1/4 real, Charles IV, 1793IJ. VF with contrasting toning, slightly porous surfaces (probably salvaged), scarce and popular 4-year type." This type was struck 1792-95 and is much rarer than the familiar "lions and castles" type which commenced in 1796.
