Sedwick sale 25, lot 158

This specimen was lot 158 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, bust 4 escudos, Charles III, 1780MI, rare. Lustrous AU with choice reverse but weaker bust and with light surface hairlines from old cleaning, now nicely toned." This type was struck steadily 1772-84 but remains very scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.901 fine gold, .393 troy oz ASW, this specimen 13.51 grams.
