This specimen was lot 25254 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $1,955. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1762-JM, UNC Details with heavy surface hairlines, original luster in the legends." This type is recorded for 1761-62 only and is rarer than those which preceded and followed it. It is, in fact, the rarest eight escudos from Peru.
