Sed37-1345r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1345 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, pillar 2 reales, Ferdinand VI, 1755 JM, ex-O'Brien. Lightly toned, problem-free XF with hint of luster, trace of die-buckling to left of shield, scarce (rated R in Yonaka). Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection, with his tag, and to Sedwick Auction 29, with original lot-tag 1815." This type, the first milled two reales of Peru, was struck for Ferdinand VI 1752-60. It is not rare but many of the dates are very scarce compared to their Mexican equivalents. Production for 1755 was shared with assayer JD.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 6.60 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10422, Yonaka-L2.55b; Cal-272; KM-53.
