This type was struck 1754-60 at Guatemala. After the earthquake of 1776 leveled the town, production resumed at the new site in 1779 with a new mintmark, "NG". This specimen was lot 75327 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $2,074. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 2 Reales, 1755-G J. Guatemala Mint. Ferdinand VI. PCGS VF-25. From the Richard August Collection." Harris[2] notes that Guatemala two reales of Ferdinand VI are very rare, with one seventeenth as many as Mexico City and most of those were likely holed.
