Papal States 1780 scudo Dav-1471
The first specimen was lot 1276 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Pie VI (1775-1799), (Giovanni Angelo Braschi), AR scudo, 1780, an 6, Rome. Droit: Armoiries. PIVS dans la légende. Revers: L'Eglise siégeant sur une nuée. AUXILIVM dans la légende. A été montée. presque Très Beau. (Italy, Papal States, Pius VI (1775-99), (Giovanni Angelo Braschi), silver scudo of 1780, year 6, Rome mint. Obverse: arms, "PIVS" in legend; reverse: the Church, seated on a cloud, "AUXILIVM" in the legend. Has been mounted, nearly Very Fine.)"
This scarce issue also comes with the "V's" engraved as "U's."
