Papal States 1780 baiocco

from the Tom Fitzgerald Collection

This type was issued 1780-83 for Pius VI (1774-99) as a substitute for the copper baiocco usually issued. It does not seem to have been a success as the issue of copper baiocchi resumed in 1782 and continued until the 1850's.
