Papal States 1758 grosso KM-976
This type is listed in the SCWC for 1758 only, one of three different types for the year (KM 976, KM 977, KM 978). The grosso was five baiocchi, while the testone was thirty baiocchi. The second specimen was lot 1688 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$515 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY | Vatican - Church State, Sedisvakanz, 1758. Grosso 1758, Roma. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS64. (Papal States, sede vacante, grosso of 1758, Rome mint. Rare in this condition, uncirculated.)"
During this sede vacante, the Camerlengo issued a zecchino, a scudo, a mezzo scudo, a doppio giulio and this grosso. This is the most affordable of the group.
