Pakistan 1977 500 rupees
This specimen was lot 1205 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $20,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "PAKISTAN: Islamic Republic, AV 500 rupees, 1977, Centenary of the Birth of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, with original COA and case of issue, PCGS graded PF69 Deep Cameo." The Pakistani regime has issued few NCLT's, apparently not appreciating the opportunities for graft and self-dealing available to such issues. Wikipedia comments, "Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938) was a South Asian Islamic philosopher, poet and politician. His poetry is considered to be among the greatest of the 20th century."
Recorded mintage: 500 plus 200 proofs.
Specification: 3.64 g, 0.917 fine gold, 19 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-49.
