Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75325

Iqbal in 1930, likely the source for the coin design

This specimen was lot 75325 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PAKISTAN. 100 Rupees, 1977. NGC MS-67. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Allama Mohammad Iqbal, this Superb Gem radiates with a tremendous mirrored nature to the surfaces." The Pakistani regime has issued few NCLT's, apparently not appreciating the opportunities for graft and self-dealing available to such issues. Wikipedia comments, "Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938) was a South Asian Islamic philosopher, poet and politician. His poetry is considered to be among the greatest of the 20th century."

Recorded mintage: 3,000 plus 300 proofs.
