Olmutz (1624) thaler Dav-3467
This specimen was lot 4287 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 16,000 CHF (about US$19,189 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Olmütz, Bistum, Franz von Dietrichstein, 1599-1636 Taler o. J. (1624). Von grösster Seltenheit. Gutes sehr schön. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (bishopric of Olmütz, Francis of Dietrichstein, 1599-1636, undated thaler. Of the highest rarity. Good very fine. Partly weakly struck.)"
This one-year type is among the scarcer issues from this ecclesiastical state in Moravia, then part of Austria, now the Czech Republic. Later thalers from the 1720's are listed quite inexpensively.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen: 28.36 g.
