Nurnberg 1773 kreuzer
The first specimen was lot 3404 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $47.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "NUREMBERG: BI kreuzer, 1773, city view type, lustrous, Unc." The second specimen was lot 47141 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Nuremberg. Kreuzer, 1773-N. PCGS MS-65." The two examples are from different dies, as may be noted on the arabesques on the upper shield of the obverse. The kreuzer was four pfennig and 1/120 of a thaler. We don't know how the engravers of the period managed to squeeze a city view onto this tiny coin.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, the first specimen 0.86 g.
