This specimen was lot 75054 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Nurnberg. Pfennig, 1770. Nurnberg Mint. Free City. PCGS MS-66." The city of Nurnberg struck billon pennies throughout the eighteenth century in various styles. This type was struck 1756-59, 1767-80 along with a uniface version (KM 315). After the introduction of the convention thaler in the mid eighteenth century, one thaler was 120 kreuzer or 480 pfennig. "₰" is the old symbol for pfennig.
