This specimen was lot 74737 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Nurnberg. Pfennig, 1772. Nurnberg Mint. ANACS MS-64. Free City issue. Arms divide date with value above on obverse. Crowned imperial eagle on reverse. Exceptionally choice for this normally circulated billon type." The city of Nurnberg struck billon pennies throughout the eighteenth century in various types. This one features the oval arms of the city with the date and value ("·1·₰·") above. It was issued 1772, 1778-84 and 1789 and is common.
