This specimen was lot 2587 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE 1/2 paisa, Patan, AM1216, elephant left, date above, beautiful strike, VF-XF." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. This half paisa is listed for AH 1200-1201, AM 1215-1223. Many mints issued these copper half paisa in dozens of styles.
