This specimen was lot 2537 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE paisa (zohra), Bengalur, AM1217, elephant left, VF, ex Dr. Vincent John Adams Flynn Collection." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. This paisa is listed for AM1217-1219 only. Many mints issued these copper paisa in dozens of styles.
