Stephen Album sale 52, lot 737

This specimen was lot 737 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AR 1/2 rupee, Patan, AM1217 year 7, very rare denomination, as are all the fractions of the rupee, bold VF, RR." This rare type was struck years 4 thru 14 along with a quarter rupee, one rupee and two rupees. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799.
