county of Montfort in 1810, on its absorption into Wurttemberg

This type was struck for the County of Montfort in 1691. As a sixty kreuzer or gulden, it is just too light to qualify as a thaler and so lacks a Davenport number. Montfort is an extremely obscure locality on the shore of Lake Constance in Wurttemberg. We have filed it under Austria as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780.This specimen was lot 1522 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (Irvine, July 2011), where it sold for $218.50. The catalog description noted, "Anton II, Regent (1686-93). Armored bust r., titles end ADMINIST. Rv. Crowned Arms in wreath, FORTITER ET CONSTANTER. Bold overdate. Natural flan flaw at 11:00 shows signs of minimization, lightly cleaned. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 16.25 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM 81.
