Montfort 1690 30 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 1328 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$435 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Montfort, Grafschaft, Anton V. als Administrator, 1686-1693. 30 Kreuzer (1/2 Gulden) 1690, Langenargen. Walzenprägung. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Montfort, Anton V as administrator, 1686-93, thirty kreuzer or half gulden of 1690, Langenargen mint. Rotated reverse, Very rare, About Extremely Fine.)"
This rare type comes with or without initials "FG"; the latter is shown here. This coin was worth one-third thaler. Montfort is an extremely obscure locality on the shore of Lake Constance in Wurttemberg. We have filed it under Austria as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: silver, this specimen 8.75 g.
