Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1528

This specimen was lot 1528 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,047 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, MILAN, Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche (1740-1780), AR zecchino, 1779. D/ B. voilé à d. R/ Ecu ovale couronné, entre une palme et un rameau d'olivier. Rare Fines griffes. presque Superbe. (duchy of Milan, Maria Theresia of Austria, 1740-80, gold zecchino of 1779. Obverse: veiled bust to right; reverse: crowned oval arms between a palm frond and an olive branch. Rare, fine scratches, about Extremely Fine.)"

This rare type was struck in Milan for Maria Theresia 1778-80. The last ducat from Milan is dated 1788.
