This specimen was lot 33889 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $12,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Milan. Maria Theresa gold Zecchino 1778 MS62 Prooflike NGC, Milan mint. Struck over a period of only three years ranging from 1778-1780 and rarely encountered in any meaningful condition, this scintillating representative projects an aura of careful preservation. Lavishly and carefully struck on a brilliant, fully Prooflike planchet, allowing the well-defined motifs to raise in admirable contrast. Currently unchallenged at this certified grade level." This rare type was struck in Milan for Maria Theresia 1778-80. The last ducat from Milan is dated 1788.
