This specimen was lot 3393 in Goldberg sale 78 (Los Angeles, January 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States - Milan. Lira, 1782-LB. Joseph II. Laureate head right. NGC graded MS-62." Like many early Italian minors, this type struck 1781-90 doesn't catalog for much but is seldom seen. The duchy of Milan was Spanish until 1714, when it passed to the Austrians, who lost it to Revolutionary France in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, it returned to Hapsburg rule until the unification of Italy in 1859-60.
