Mexico 2009 5 pesos KM-916
This specimen is one of a series issued by the Mexico City mint to honor heroes of the War of Independence (1810-21) and the Mexican Revolution (1910-17). The program was modeled on the U. S. Mint's state quarter program and has been quite popular. The specimen shown here honors Servando Teresa de Mier. The coins are the same weight and diameter as the bimetallic five pesos issued since 1992 (KM 552).

He was imprisoned several times for his controversial beliefs, and lived in exile in Spain, France and England.
