Mexico 2010 5 pesos KM-924
This specimen is one of a series issued by the Mexico City mint to honor heroes of the War of Independence (1810-21) and the Mexican Revolution (1910-17). The program was modeled on the U. S. Mint's state quarter program and has been quite popular. The specimen shown here, honors Emiliano Zapata, whose campaign for "Land and Liberty" was an annoyance to the other revolutionary leaders eager to carve up the perquisites of victory. He was murdered in 1919. The coins are the same weight and diameter as the bimetallic five pesos issued since 1992 (KM 552).
Recorded mintage: 6,921,306 plus 4,810 proofs.
Specification: 7.07 g, bimetallic, stainless steel outer ring with an aluminum-bronze center, 25.5 mm diameter.
