This specimen was lot 25400 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 5 Pesos 1983, Proof 67 Cameo, very rare proof only date with a reported mintage of 7." This type was struck in Mexico 1980-85 but the 1983 is known only from these rare proofs. The Aztec feathered serpent god, Quetzalcoatl, is featured on the obverse.
